Tampines Bike Park (Archived)
Archived- Tampines Bike Park closed in 2014
With the entrance to the bike park at the junction between Tampines Ave 7 and Ave 9, TBP consists of a BMX dirt jump park and an estimated core 4km XC trail loop (expandable to 6.8km based on the recent 2012 Singapore MTB carnival 8 hour enduro race). TBP was the host venue of the BMX and mountain biking events of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, as well as the venue of the recent national MTB cross-country and downhill championships.
Certification is required before one could use the BMX jump park. The mountain biking trail is open to public use during the day time at no charge
As a mountain biking venue for the community, it sees a fair amount of use, although still less frequented than trails in the central catchment area, as it is said that lack of forestation around the trails makes for very warm riding conditions from late morning onwards.
MBASG's position on Tampines Bike Park:
It has been known amongst the mountain biking community that Tampines Bike Park (TBP) may not be a permanent facility after the 2010 YOG. With the release of the Land Use Plan by MND which mentioned Tampines North as a future housing estate to support plans for 6.9 Million people, it became clear that the days for TBP may be numbered.
MBASG is still formulating our course of action on this matter, and is working with various interest groups to examine options available. We know that many mountain bikers are concerned about future plans for TBP because it is one of our four precious mountain biking trails on mainland Singapore, and serves many mountain bikers residing in Eastern Singapore. We know that a concerned mountain biker wrote to Mr. Baey Yam Keng, MP of Tampines GRC to voice his concerns about this development.
MBASG understands the need for more residential housing in Singapore as the population expands, but we hope that the relevant authorities also see the benefits of having adequate green spaces for outdoor activities and sports such as mountain biking.
